The Gate House Restaurant & Coffee Shop is situated opposite, and run by Jigsaw Visitors’ Centre. The Gate House is open to all customers and offers breakfast and lunch in a casual setting. It is managed by certified professionals who supervise the rehabilitation of offenders and ex-offenders working in the open kitchen.
Weekdays: 7am to 2pm
Weekends and Bank Holidays: Closed
Offenders and ex-offenders who pass security clearance can apply to volunteer at The Gate House under the supervision of certified professionals. The programme offers participants the opportunity to learn new skills through their work and gain catering and customer service qualifications. Having work experience and OCN accredited qualifications improves the participant’s chance of gaining employment and reintegrating into society. In order to earn these qualifications, participants must prepare a variety of meals and so lunch specials change daily. We asked two previous participants how the programme has benefited their lives. Here is their response:
“Volunteering at The Gate House had given me something to focus on, an opportunity to make new friends, to prove that I could be trusted and accepted back into society”
“The greatest achievement I have had outside of working at The Gate House is that I have a job, home, car, freedom and… a proper relationship with my children for the first time”
All of our meals are made using fresh produce from local halal-certified suppliers in an effort to support local businesses in Leeds. Our freshly-ground coffee is Fairtrade certified so farmers are offered better prices and working conditions.
